When you want to format a line of text in your header/footer or paragraph within the document outside of the left margin:

1.  Select the text and go to Format / Paragraph.  If you are only selecting one line or one paragraph, simply place your cursor anywhere in that text.

2.  In the Indentation section, specify a negative value in the Left box.  For example, if you want the paragraph to extend a quarter-inch into the left margin, you would manually type -.25 as the value.  You can also click on the down arrow to the right of the box until you reach the specified setting.

3.  Click OK to close the dialog box.

Setting a negative indent alleviates the need to add section breaks for margin changes in your document.
